The NIAF Golden Anniversary Gala in Washington
The annual gala of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has always been one of the most significant events for the Italian-American community. The edition held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, marking the Foundation’s 50th anniversary, had an even deeper meaning: celebrating half a century of cultural, social, and entrepreneurial ties between Italy and the United States.
In the majestic setting of the Washington Hilton, where it all began in 1975, over two thousand guests gathered for the historic "Golden Anniversary Gala," enjoying black-tie elegance, conviviality, and moments of profound emotion. As highlighted by the Foundation’s President, Robert Allegrini, this fiftieth anniversary represents “the beginning of a new Renaissance, a cultural and social rebirth for the Italian-American community, aimed at honoring its roots with renewed energy and ambition.”
Joined by John Calvelli, Chairman of the NIAF Board, Allegrini recalled the importance of a shared heritage rooted in the journeys of thousands of Italians through Ellis Island—a sentiment made even more poignant by the presence of a centenarian World War II veteran.
After the gala dinner, the evening continued with an after-party organized by Medora Events, turning the celebration into a vibrant and sophisticated experience centered on music and networking.
As tradition dictates, the evening included the presentation of the Dea Roma Awards, recognizing individuals who have distinguished themselves in promoting Italian excellence worldwide. Among the honorees were John Elkann, CEO of Exor N.V. and Chairman of Ferrari and Stellantis, awarded the Dea Roma Special Achievement Award in Business Leadership; Andrea Bocelli, honored with the Dea Roma Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment for his artistic career and cultural commitment; and Alessandro Del Piero, selected as the representative of Serie A, NIAF’s partner in promoting shared sporting and cultural values.
NIAF also recognized five other figures symbolizing Italian excellence in the world:
-
Doug Leone, Partner at Sequoia Capital;
-
Roberto Cingolani, CEO of Leonardo S.p.A.;
-
Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, CEO and General Manager of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane;
-
Flavio Cattaneo, CEO of Enel Group;

Katia Passerini, President of Gonzaga University.
